Questions, answered plainly
Do you take my insurance?
We are out of network with every plan and don't file claims. Our itemized receipt lets you ask a plan that reimburses out-of-network care to pay you back. The plan decides what it covers.
What if I don't have insurance?
You pay at the visit and hear the fee in writing first. Financing is offered by third-party lenders, with approval and terms set by the lender.
Will it hurt?
Most of what we do needs no numbing. Pressing on a tender jaw muscle can be uncomfortable. Tell us and we ease off or stop, and you can ask for a break at any time.
Do I need X-rays?
Only if Dr. Okada needs them to see something an exam can't. She explains why, and she decides how often.
Will a night guard stop me from clenching?
No. It protects your teeth from wearing against each other. Some people feel their jaw is better, and some notice no change.
Do you treat sleep apnea?
No. A physician diagnoses it. If you snore loudly, wake gasping or are very tired in the day, please see your physician.
Can I get a written estimate before treatment?
Yes. Anyone paying without insurance gets one in advance, and anyone else can ask for one.
Do you do cleanings and fillings?
No. This office focuses on the jaw, the bite and night guards. If you need other dental work, Dr. Okada tells you and can send your records to the dentist you choose.
Do you see children?
Our visits are for adults. If your child grinds their teeth, a pediatric dentist is the right person to ask.
What counts as a dental emergency, and what should I do first?
Trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling that spreads to the face or neck, or bleeding that won't stop: call 911 or go to an emergency room. For a broken tooth or a severe toothache, call us and we'll tell you whether we can see you or who can.
What should I bring to a first visit?
A photo ID, a list of your medicines and any night guard you wear now.
How do I cancel or change a visit?
Call or text the office as early as you can, and Catherine will find another time.
Still have a question?
Call the office, or send a note without health details, and Catherine will answer.
